What it Takes

October 9, 2025

Today my mind is on "what it takes." What it takes to cross the finish line. What it takes to stick with a long term project. What it takes to keep going when there aren't any tangible results yet.

And why am I thinking about this? Because next week, on Tuesday, my book The Neuroscience of Reading Music will be for sale. And today, I have been involved in "what it takes."  This is the third day in a row that I've worked on my website--getting every letter, every margin, every font color just right. The post cards I'm going to send out to potential customers are sitting in boxes on my dining room table. My desk is cluttered with notebooks--one for communicating with the publisher, one for contacting customers in each state, one for marketing the book. Thank God I have a crockpot with chili in it for supper tonight because I've been sitting here all day at my desk in my pajamas and slippers, thinking every hour that I only have a little more to do. And I'm still not finished. And my husband is on his way home to sit down for dinner.

Generally, I'm a starter, not a finisher. Starting things is interesting. Finishing them is grueling and boring. But here I am...one week away from seeing a beautifully constructed book on Amazon. Much thanks to Atlantic Publishing Group in Ocala, Florida because they have helped me over the finish line.  Grateful.
